Thesis Title: The effect of linguistic interventions and visual aids on the discourse of Alzheimer patients

About

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia, a serious brain disorder that impacts daily living through memory loss and cognitive changes.  Alzheimer’s is a degenerative disease, progressing from mild forgetfulness to widespread neurological impairment and ultimately death. Chemical and structural changes in the brain gradually destroy the ability to create, remember, learn, reason, and relate to others.  As critical cells die, drastic personality loss occurs and body systems fail.  People with Alzheimer’s lose particular communication abilities during the early, middle, and late stages of the disease. So, this disease affects their communication with others.

This study addresses the challenge to identify effective nonmedical communication interventions (linguistic practices and visual aids) that will assist persons with mild and average Alzheimer disease to function at their most optimal levels, and to enhance their quality of life. This study investigates the effect of direct linguistic interventions on Alzheimer persons. This study will focus on the discourse of Alzheimer’s patients. The importance of study mainly derives from the motive to enhance the quality of life of people with Alzheimer.

This study is nearly an advance study to examine how far this intervention is going to affect the communicative abilities of Alzheimer patients.
